Start and End Times

Students should plan to arrive at the Austin Pets Alive! at 9:00AM on the first day of their apprenticeship. Expect to be on-site until at least 5:00 or 6:00PM each evening.

When you arrive, please head to Building A (Davenport) and ring the bell. Let them know you are there for the Maddie’s Foster Apprenticeship to be directed to your classroom.

The apprenticeship will end around 5:00PM on the last day.

What to Wear

Activities will be classroom based, in the shelter and outdoors. Students will spend time working hands-on with dogs and should wear comfortable clothing that may get slightly dirty. Attire for the class is casual.

We recommend:

  • Close-toed shoes
  • Pants or Jeans
  • Layers
  • We encourage all our students to proudly wear shirts or items from their home shelters!

Texas weather is unpredictable, so it is recommended to check the daily weather forecast prior to your visit. You can learn more about our weather here.

Homework Assignment

As part of your marketing assignment you will have an opportunity to take a dog on a sleepover. If you would like to do this please make sure to reserve dog friendly accommodations. Although the Holiday Inn Town Lake normally does not allow dogs they have made an exception to allow our students to do sleepovers.

We look forward to seeing you in Austin!
